[When the video clicked on, it showed a room that was slightly dingy in terms of lighting, yet despite the dark, there was a welcoming feel to the space. Give it a moment to focus on the booths, the bar stools and yes, the bar and some people may recognize the area as the Roadhouse.

The Roadhouse, one of the first locations ever established by people dragged into Abax, established and maintained by Ellen Harvelle then by Jo Harvelle when Ellen left, it appeared to be empty now.]

I do not know if anyone else has been living in here, since Jo left the city. I've watched the building for a couple of weeks and have not seen anyone but if that is not the case, please let me know.

Because, I know Ellen would not want her Roadhouse to sit without purpose and with the advent of fresh meat and the changes to Capax, I think it may be time someone offered food, alcohol and the comfort of an establishment like this.

[There was a pause and then a soft, wry chuckle.]

I promise, I won't be the one cooking the food.

With that in mind, what dishes would remind those of us left of home?

I didn't know there was a restaurant! I'd offer to cook, but I don't think you'd like it very much. Personally, I miss french fries.

It's not really ... well, actually when Ellen was here she did her best to make comfort food, for whoever wanted it. I did not get to visit often when Jo took over, I suppose I was also missing Ellen.

[Rambling Charles, rambling!]

Oh but yes! Yes, it is a restaurant and a bar. I was thinking that with the new source of supplies, we may be able to get it up and running again. Though, I don't know if there are any potatoes around.

I doubt it. I haven't had anything like that since I got here. It's weird missing things like that, you'd never think that's what it'd be.

I hope you can get it running again, it'd be a good place to go.

If any of the restaurants in the mall restock, we may be able to find some frozen, pre-cut french fries in the freezers. If that is the case, I will certainly add them to the menu.

[He may be dubious about french fries for his own diet but the starch probably would be comforting.

French fries and space gorilla burgers ... McDonald's eat your heart out.]

I definitely wouldn't say no to that.

[ He smiles. Charles seems like a nice person. ]

What about until then, what's your plan?

[He tries to be, in between the occasional bouts of insanity.]

Well for the moment, get the place cleaned up and see what cooking appliances can still be used. Then supplies and I suppose we start to cook.

Try to get the word out, to those who are still here in the city, that there is some place to find a meal, if they are in need. The Roadhouse was also located close to the hospital, so it may be worth making sure that any new arrivals are aware of somewhere they can go for food and information.

I guess I could help you there. [ He shrugs his shoulders. ] I work in the hospital. I could tell new arrivals when they come, they'd probably be glad of it.

People get kind of freaked out by the morgue thing. I can't blame them, but it'd be good if they had somewhere else to go.

[Someone is rifling about off screen of Charles' device while he talks to people. He's been in here before, once. Met Charles friend who use to run the place, then again it had been in the middle of a right against the mannequins rushing the whole city, so it had been fleeting.

Still, he remembered a little of this place. Better to get acquainted now, yes?]

[Pausing in his conversations, Charles shut off the video feed for his device and roamed over to see what Burke was getting into.]

I think if we can get fires going in a couple of those brick ovens, that should serve for cooking, yes?

Should work.

[Burke nods, and he's busy touching things. Odds and ends around the place. But he'll glance back at the telepath and his mouth quirks up just a bit.]

Remind me what's in this for me again, Charlie?

[Sure he enjoyed killing the damn beasts, and the work it took to get them prepared to eat was good work, it kept him busy and the end result of fresh cooked meat was fantastic. But, doing this for the city? That might just be a bit too nice for Burke.]

[Setting his hands in his pockets, Charles looked thoughtful for a long moment, considering and then discarding any number of answers.

There was, of course, that it would make Charles happy, which ... wasn't really incentive. A happy Charles meant more sex but again, not really an incentive when you boiled it down.

A happy Charles meant he was less likely to try to melt Burke's brain but ... against, there were times Burke seemed to enjoy that. They had already discussed the killing and dressing of space gorilla, though Burke could do that without also bothering to cook meals.

So in the end...]

Absolutely nothing.

[Have to go with the truth.]

[The Irishman just chuckles low like and turns to face Charles completely now.]

Maybe.

Think seein' the faces ah the citizenry when they realize who's makin' their meals might be worth it. The first time at least.

[That earned Burke an eyebrow arch as he could tell the man was up to some mischief or other.]

Remind me to look into hiring a cook.

[There is no disappointment or anger in his tone, merely resignation that Burke will 'help' for as long as it amuses him and not a moment longer.]

Pizza. I've found frozen ones around before, but it's not the same as fresh pizza.

Pizza? [Charles repeated before frowning thoughtfully.] It would be nice, I agree but we'd have to find yeast to make the dough.

[Though, if Capax truly was rebuilding and stabilizing, that might actually be something they could find, hmmmm...]

And what topping would you add to space gorilla?

If the mall's really changing like I'm hearing, we might find some there.

[He thinks on the answer to that question for a moment, tapping a finger to his chin.]

You mean it doesn't already count as pepperoni?

So long as it stabilizes and doesn't disappear on us again. [Or get blown up, again.

At the suggestion of space gorilla pepperoni, Charles made a bit of a face.]

I imagine it would be more like putting ground beef on a pizza? I don't know that we have the facilities or supplies for making a proper pepperoni roll out of space gorilla.

[Though, now that he'd mentioned it ... wasn't the worst idea Charles had heard.]

[Peter rubs at the back of his neck, shrugging.] Well, another sweep around the mall could probably tell us whether we do or don't... Not- Not that I'm saying we should, since it's, y'know, pretty dangerous in there.

[That, is going to get you a bit of a look there Peter. Charles has had Julian, Magik, Burke and Laura in his life long enough to be able to translate 'pretty dangerous' as 'FUN TIME!']

It is certainly dangerous to go alone.

Katsudon. Man. Some fresh katsudon would hit the spot.

[He's not quite as well traveled as his more stable self might have been so the word does not immediately ring a bell.]

Oh! Uh. A pork chop that's been pounded thin, fried up crispy, and served over a bowl of rice with eggs and sauce. I like mine with miso or soy sauce.

Sounds quite good actually. We could probably come up with a chop like cut from the gorilla but there may be a problem with eggs and trying to fry anything.

[It would take a lot of fire to get oil up to temperature for proper frying.]

Yeah... We've found eggs before, but they're pretty scarce. [a long suffering sigh...]

There might be powdered eggs. Somewhere.

[His tone says what he thinks about this possible solution, however. Better to just do without than go with powdered.]
